Australian sailors had a tough day on the water on day two of the RS:X World Championship in Kerteminde, Denmark, with Australian Sailing Team member Jessica Crisp the best placed Australian.
After racing in the women’s fleet was cancelled on day one due to a light fickle breeze three races were scheduled for Monday in a 15 to 19 knot northerly breeze and Crisp ended the day in 33rd overall.
The three-time Olympian had an unfortunate disqualification after a port starboard infringement in opening race but fought back well with two top ten finishes to round out the day.
Crisp crossed the line sixth in race two and eighth in race three and will be looking to continue to move up the ladder on Tuesday with another three races planned to bring the women’s fleet back onto schedule.
Young Queensland sailor Joanna Sterling ended the day in 53rd following two 25ths and a 26th in a very strong women’s fleet.
Five Australians are competing in the men’s fleet with all the sailors learning a lot from racing against the best RS:X competitors in the world.
West Australian Tim Gourlay is the best placed Australian in 83rd after the opening four races, ahead of Luke Baillie in 97th and James Levy in 99th.
Joel Tyack is in 103rd with Eamon Robertshaw 105th and Partick Vos one place further back in 106th.
More moderate wind conditions are forecast for Tuesday before a lay day on Wednesday with the 2010 RS:X World Championship running until September 5.
